Community of the Spirit
The long talked about project with vocalist, flute, string quartet, piano, and bass is finally coming to life as the newly titled group, "Community of the Spirit," named after the title of one of Rumi's poems (a poem I'm particularly fond of). The group contains members Kate Victor on voice, Shannon Baker on flute, Erica Seguine on piano, Leo Sherman on bass, Flora Yousefi and Kim Chiesa on violin, Emily Wisniewski on viola, and Jaime Compton on cello.
The music draws upon a variety of influences, including jazz, classical, and latin music, combined together to bring primarily poems to life. Erica Seguine and Shannon Baker are currently writing for this ensemble, and this music will make its debut coming May.
We're playing at the 5C Cultural Center and Cafe in East Village, NYC on Sunday, May 23, from 8pm-10pm. There is no cover/no minimum, although donations are welcome. Please come out to be immersed in deep, inspirational poetry and some beautiful music. We're also taking part in Make Music New York on June 21st, playing at the Dana Discovery Center in Central Park at 2pm.
